Background
Dick and his wife Kathy have been members of Shepherd of the Valley since 1980.
They have three adult children and five grandchildren. Dick joined the staff in
1999 after retiring from college teaching. During his years at Shepherd, Dick has been a youth
leader, council member, council president, adult bible study teacher, and
small group leader.
Education
Dick attended Concordia College, St. Paul and has BS and MS degrees from the University of Wisconsin - River Falls. He has
also attended the University of Minnesota in the EdD program.
Work Experience
Dick taught mathematics and psychology at Concordia Academy from 1966 - 1972. He
was a math/science consultant for Xerox & Ginn Publishing from 1972 -
1975. In 1975 he joined the
faculty at St. Paul Technical College and taught mathematics and computer
courses. Dick was a finalist for Educator of the Year in St. Paul in 1987
and was Vice-president of the Minnesota Council of Teachers. He was one of
the authors of the Minnesota College Transfer Curriculum and was a consulting
author for a multi-media Adult Mathematics program. He retired from
St. Paul Technical College in 1998 after a total of 32 years in education.
He has served as a trustee of the St. Paul Teachers' Retirement Fund
Association and as a member of the Technical Advisory Committee of the National
Association on Teachers' Retirement.
In addition to his work in education, Dick operated his own private computer
consulting business for many years.
